Cold Laser Therapy
In keeping with our promise to maintain a state of the art facility, we are excited to announce the addition of a Therapeutic Laser to Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic.
Laser treatment can offer a great alternative to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which relieves any worry of long-term effects on a pet's liver and kidneys. It's the only course of treatment that actually stimulates the body to heal from within, without the use of prescription drugs. The therapeutic laser stimulates the cells and they respond with a higher rate of metabolism. This results in increased circulation, relief from pain and an acceleration of the healing process. Laser therapy is a drug-free and painless alternative to treat joint pain, acute sprains and injuries as well as decrease inflammation (swelling). It also will help heal wounds, fractures, acute ear and skin infections and can be combined with other therapies to help rehabilitate your pet after surgery or injury. The therapeutic laser has a special place in helping geriatric patients with chronic arthritis.
The laser treatment is prescribed by the veterinarian after a physical exam and consultation with the owner. A technician will carry out the treatment, usually with the owner present. The painless procedure takes 10 – 15 minutes and typically requires no sedation. Six treatments over three weeks are done initially to treat chronic problems. After this, a maintenance plan is implemented.
